World Bank · 1990 to 2025

Five measures from the World Bank’s development indicators describe how a country lives: the share of people using the internet, living in towns and cities and aged 65 or over; life expectancy at birth; and enrolment in higher education.[1] The map shows the internet: nearly everyone is online in Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and under one in ten in South Sudan and Burundi; the median country is at about 81%.

Higher-education enrolment can pass 100% where many older students enrol.[1] The chart of what goes with it sets these, along with income per person, beside each country’s score; how each law came about is in the history.

What is counted, and how the file was made

Five measures of how a country lives: the share of people using the internet, living in towns and cities and aged 65 or over; life expectancy at birth; and the gross enrolment ratio in higher education, which can pass 100% where many older students enrol.

Downloaded on 22 October 2026 by scripts/fetch-open-data.py (development), which keeps the countries with a country file.
