Views of the cannabis article on Wikipedia

Wikimedia Foundation · July 2015 to September 2026

What people look up shows what they are curious about. The Wikimedia Foundation publishes how often each article is loaded; this site follows the article on cannabis as a drug in 26 language editions, every month since July 2015.[1] Each language is linked to the country where most of its readers live; the Japanese, German and Italian editions rank highest.

A language is not a country: German Wikipedia is read in Austria and Switzerland too, and page loads are not unique readers.[1] The chart of who looked it up follows each edition month by month, to be read beside changes in the law such as Germany’s Cannabis Act in 2024. For coverage in the news rather than readers’ curiosity, see cannabis in the news; for the words themselves, the atlas entry on cannabis.

What is counted, and how the file was made

Monthly page-load events for the cannabis-as-a-drug article in 26 Wikipedia language editions, using traffic classified as user rather than automated. These are page-load events, not unique readers; repeat visits count again. Language editions identify worldwide traffic, not the location of people viewing them. German Wikipedia is also read in Austria and Switzerland, Dutch in Belgium.

Downloaded on 22 October 2026 by scripts/fetch-open-data.py (wikipedia); the article in each language is the one the English "Cannabis (drug)" links to.

The file belongs to Wikimedia and keeps its terms; cite the publisher when you use it.
