Government revenue from cannabis in Canada
Statistics Canada · fiscal years 2021/2022 to 2024/2025
A legal market pays the state. Statistics Canada reports what Canada’s governments take from the legal cannabis trade each fiscal year: the profit of the provincial cannabis authorities, federal and provincial excise taxes, sales taxes and other revenue.[1] The series runs from 2021/22 to 2024/25, the years after the Cannabis Act of 2018 and the legal edibles of 2019.
The chart of the state as merchant breaks the revenue down by source. Other countries that sell cannabis legally appear in each profile’s cannabis industry section; for how far legal sales have pushed out illegal ones in Canada, see where people get their cannabis.

What is counted, and how the file was made
What Canada's governments took from the legal cannabis trade in each fiscal year from April, in thousands of Canadian dollars: the profit of the provincial cannabis authorities, the federal and provincial excise taxes, sales taxes and other revenue. `year` is the year the fiscal year starts.
Statistics Canada's site was unavailable on 21 October 2026, so the table is the Internet Archive's copy of its CSV download of 11 October 2026, kept unchanged as statcan-10100165.csv; scripts/extract-canada.py (revenue) keeps Canada's lines.
