Parties for legal cannabis
Wikidata · founded 1993 to 2022
In a few countries, people who want cannabis legal have founded parties of their own. Wikidata, the open database behind Wikipedia, records parties that campaign on cannabis, with their country and the years they were founded and dissolved.[1] It lists 22 parties in 9 countries, from Australia, with Legalise Cannabis Australia and its state parties, and New Zealand, with the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party, to South Africa, with the Dagga Party, and the United States.
Wikidata is written by volunteers and far from complete: parties whose name does not mention the plant, such as Israel’s Ale Yarok, are found only if their ideology is recorded.[1] The parties chart shows when they were founded. In South Africa change came instead from the Constitutional Court in 2018; the atlas profiles campaigners such as Keith Stroup and Marc Emery.

What is counted, and how the file was made
