On 17 October Curaleaf, the only company so far to register a cannabis extract with the medicines agency, said its two preparations would start going to about 50 hospitals and could be available by the end of the month. A hospital specialist may prescribe a standardised preparation only after authorised medicines have failed, and the hospital pharmacy makes it up. One extract is richer in THC and the other in CBD. Ordinary pharmacies cannot dispense it.

A positive roadside test would still bring a 24-hour driving ban; laboratory THC below 50 ng/ml would bring no further action, while the first two detections at or above that threshold within two years would bring warnings. Implementation was expected in late 2026 or early 2027, and commencement was not established in this review.
