An Ontario judge exempts an AIDS patient from the cannabis ban

Justice Harry LaForme of the Ontario Superior Court granted Jim Wakeford a constitutional exemption from prosecution, so that he could possess and grow cannabis while the health ministry considered his application. Nineteen other patients had applied; government lawyers admitted the ministry had adopted only preliminary guidelines that week. The government did not appeal.[1]
