Students who have tried cannabis (Europe)

ESPAD Group and the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) · 1995 to 2024, every four or five years

The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs has asked 15- and 16-year-olds the same questions every four or five years since 1995, which makes it the longest comparable series of cannabis use in Europe.[1] In 2024, across 37 countries, the median is 11% who have ever tried cannabis. Czechia is highest, at 24%, with Liechtenstein and Slovakia next; Moldova, Georgia and Romania are lowest, under 5%.

Germany’s figures are for Bavaria only.[1] The chart of teenage trends follows each country since 1995, wave by wave. Compare with how easy students say it is to get and with use at 15 and 16 outside Europe.

What is counted, and how the file was made

The per cent of students aged 15 to 16 who have ever used cannabis, in each wave of the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs from 1995 to 2024, from its trend database. Germany's figures are for Bavaria only. Moldova, Montenegro and North Macedonia held their 2007 wave in 2008.

The EUDA's site refuses scripted downloads, so the spreadsheet of source tables was opened in a browser on 22 October 2026 and figure 32 was read from it and written here, one row per country and wave, rounded to one decimal.
