On 26 April 2026 a joint police and coast guard operation intercepted a freighter in the South China Sea and seized 735 kg of cannabis, arresting five people. Police described the route as running from Southeast Asia through Chinese waters to overseas buyers. The case was one of five major drug operations published by Guangdong's public security department on 22 June 2026.[1]
