China raises fines and adds venue bans for drug use

The revised Public Security Administration Punishments Law, passed on 27 June 2025 and in force from 1 January 2026, raised the fine for drug use and small possession from 2,000 to 3,000 yuan and for small cultivation or seed offences from 3,000 to 5,000 yuan. It also lets police bar users for six months to a year from entertainment venues and from contact with people involved in drug offences. Records of public-security penalties are sealed under the same law.[1]
