Tightening 🇦🇫 Afghanistan

The Taliban ban cannabis in areas they control

In March 2020 the Taliban's supreme leader issued a decree banning cannabis cultivation and the production and sale of hashish in areas under the movement's control. The leadership consulted scholars for a fatwa and justified the ban on religious and social grounds, while acknowledging the cost to farmers. Enforcement began in newer growing areas such as Ghazni and Paktika, but the Taliban did not apply it in the traditional heartlands of Kandahar, Nangarhar and Balkh in the first season.[1]
