The Supreme Soviet of the USSR created the Moldavian SSR on 2 August 1940, uniting six eastern districts of the former Moldavian Autonomous Republic with central Bessarabia.[1] All-union drug legislation, including the 1934 prohibition on cultivating Indian hemp without a state permit, continued to apply across the Dniester territory under the newly integrated republican administration.[1]
