Breakaway Transnistria retains Soviet criminal drug prohibitions

Following its 1990 declaration of separation from Moldova, the Supreme Council of Transnistria enacted continuity legislation on 26 March 1992. It confirmed that former Soviet and Moldavian legal codes remained in force on its territory insofar as they did not conflict with local acts.[1] The measure preserved strict criminal bans on cultivating and supplying narcotics while the unrecognised administration began establishing its own separate court system and militia.[1]
