Japan ends Taiwan's opium monopoly as the war closes

The Governor-General ended the opium monopoly on 17 June 1945, after stopping opium manufacturing in September 1944 and before Japanese rule ended in October. The 1955 narcotics statute later set the criminal framework that still covers cannabis. The end of the monopoly closed the colonial system described in the earlier entries.[1][2]
