A League opium commission visits Taiwan as treatment expands

The League of Nations' Far Eastern opium commission arrived on 19 February 1930 and met Lin Hsien-tang and Chiang Wei-shui in Taipei on 1 March. Under pressure, the Governor-General had issued rules for temporary opium withdrawal centres in January and opened the Taipei Gengsheng Hospital; Dr Tu Tsung-ming ran its medical work. The hospital treated addiction as an illness, but the colonial monopoly continued until 1945.[1][2]
