Independence leaves the 1922 drug law in force

Swaziland became independent on 6 September 1968. No cannabis-specific amendment from the 1960s was traced; the 1922 Opium and Habit-forming Drugs Act remained the operative prohibition and was carried into the 1998 consolidation. The colonial-era law thus survived decolonisation and was still the base statute in 2026.[1][2]
