Lebanon's army kills a clan member in a Bekaa drug raid

A drone strike attributed to the Lebanese Army in Dar al-Wassaa near Yammouneh killed Hassan Abbas Jaafar, a member of the Jaafar clan wanted for drug trafficking, killings and attacks on soldiers; two other clan members were wounded. The army did not mention the strike, saying soldiers returned fire during raids and killed a wanted man. A week earlier the army had destroyed about 7,000 square metres of cannabis in Zarazir, and the campaign came as security services faced US and Gulf pressure over the drug trade.[1]
