Kazakhstan adds detention for repeatedly using drugs in public

Index score

−1 point

Kazakhstan raised its public drug-use fine to five monthly calculation units, with ten for repetition, and added fifteen days’ detention after two earlier public-use penalties within a year.[1] The amendment took effect after publication in January 2011, replacing the fine-only offence introduced in 2006.[2][3] The public-use offence later moved into criminal law under the replacement code in 2015.[4]
