A Kazakh lawmaker proposes leasing the cannabis fields to drug companies

Dariga Nazarbayeva, a member of parliament and the president's eldest daughter, told the chamber that the country should review its attitude to cannabis and lease some of its 140,000 hectares of wild plants to international pharmaceutical companies. Nothing came of it; industrial hemp was allowed only in 2025.[1]
