Tightening 🇰🇿 Kazakhstan

Twenty officers police a valley of wild cannabis the size of a small country

The interior ministry estimated that the Chu valley could yield 140,000 tonnes of marijuana and 5,000 to 6,000 tonnes of hashish a year. A local unit of just over twenty men patrols some 140,000 hectares, reinforced each summer from May to October in what is called Operation Poppy; the previous year's operation had seized 20 tonnes. A factory planned to turn the plants into industrial hemp had got as far as a fence.[1]
