Narcotics agents said on 13 August 2025 that they had seized 1.046 tonnes of dried cannabis, worth about 5.2 billion yen on the street, from a shipping container that had left Vietnam in May and arrived in Japan in June.[1] It was the largest single seizure of any illegal drug in Japan, and more than twice the 452 kg of herbal cannabis recorded across the country in 2024.[1]
