Japan bans CBN products, with a narrow exception for patients

From 1 June 2026 Japan banned the manufacture, import, sale, possession and use of products containing CBN, a cannabinoid that had been sold in CBD oils and other products.[1] The health ministry said CBN was likely to have psychoactive effects and could pose a health risk when used.[1] Patients with a hard-to-treat illness and no alternative treatment can apply for a confirmation certificate that lets them keep using CBN products.[1]
