Commission Regulation 2026/1828, adopted on 28 July and published in the Official Journal on 29 July, amends the food-contaminant rules for hemp leaves used to make a water infusion.[1] From 1 January 2027 the maximum for the sum of delta-9-THC and THCA, expressed as delta-9-THC equivalents, is 40 mg/kg in the leaves and 0.02 mg/kg in a ready-to-drink infusion.[1] The label must say the leaves are only for a water infusion, that infants and young children should not drink it, and that no fatty ingredient such as cream or milk is used during steeping.[1] Food already on the market may stay until its durability date.[1] The regulation enters into force on the twentieth day after publication and applies from 1 January 2027.[1] Member states may keep stricter rules on selling the leaves.[1]
