Victor Licata, 21, killed his parents and three siblings with an axe in Ybor City, Tampa.[1][2] The press blamed marijuana, and Harry Anslinger later made the case the centrepiece of his warnings, describing a sane young man undone by the drug.[1][2] Licata had been diagnosed with dementia praecox, an old name for schizophrenia; marijuana appears nowhere in his psychiatric reports.[1][2] He was committed to the state mental hospital.[1]
