Virginia passes a separate marijuana law after Roanoke rumours

Virginia had adopted the Uniform Narcotic Drug Act in 1934 without its optional cannabis section. After rumours that Roanoke schoolchildren were using marijuana, a federal narcotics agent helped obtain a city ordinance and then a state bill banning sale, possession and cultivation, with one to ten years in the penitentiary. It passed both houses unanimously.[1]
