During the Taipei mayoral campaign, opposition KMT legislators held a press conference on 7 October 2026 to propose that any downgrading or removal of cannabis from the narcotics list require prior Legislative Yuan approval. They also proposed a one-year minimum prison term for drug-driving, heavier penalties for fatal drug-driving and saliva testing in schools. The proposals followed a dispute over DPP candidate Shen Po-yang's 2014 article on harm reduction; none of the measures had been enacted.[1]
