South African landrace project sets out plans to return community genetics

Cannabiz Africa reported plans by the African Cultural Heritage Trust, Druids Garden and farmer partners to characterise landrace seed and return verified cultivars through community nurseries. Druids Garden’s chief executive said a seed collection dating from 1948–1972 had been donated in 2024; the broader research partnership began in 2019. The report describes intended community ownership, training and royalties, with nursery development planned over forty-eight months.[1]
