Nepali Times reported in August 2026 that Thamel shops were selling hemp bags, shirts, socks and dresses made from fibre bought in Bajura, Bajhang and Rolpa. Manufacturers said demand was growing at home and abroad, but they said quality and supply were inconsistent because hemp cultivation was illegal. Gandaki was the only province with a cultivation law, and it had not been implemented.[1][2]
