At the UN drug commission in Vienna, Morocco voted for a WHO recommendation to remove cannabis and cannabis resin from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention, the category for drugs with almost no medical use. The motion passed by 27 votes to 25 with one abstention; Morocco was the only Middle Eastern or North African state to support it. The change recognised medical potential in international law but did not alter Morocco's own ban. It came shortly before the government sent its medical-cannabis bill to parliament.[1]
