Marie Alexandrine Martin's chapter in Cannabis and Culture, based on fieldwork in 1973, described cannabis growing in small household plots and being sold in markets at about 3,000 riel a kilogram. She recorded its use in soups, curries and remedies, and noted that the plant was not intensively farmed. The account describes household growing, market sale and cooking at a time when cannabis was part of everyday life rather than a specialist drug.[1]
