A Department of Narcotics Control survey estimated that 8.3 million people in Bangladesh were addicted to drugs, about 4.89 per cent of the population, the first such study by the department. It put 6.1 million people in the cannabis column, more than any other substance, although many users took more than one drug. The previous government survey in 2018 had estimated 3.6 million. The findings were reported on 26 June 2025, before the survey was officially published.[1]
