The earliest known mention of bhang in Swahili sources dates to 1722: a member of a prominent trading family used bhang in Oman while the family was active in Zanzibar.[1][2] Duvall flags the account with an asterisk — Stigand claims Swahili documents but cites none, and the Swahili literature has not been studied for cannabis history — so the notice is a first trace, not a dated introduction.[1]
