Samuel Caldwell, a labourer in his late fifties, was arrested at a Denver hotel on 2 October, the day after the Act took effect, while selling cannabis to Moses Baca.[1][2] Three days later Judge Foster Symes gave Caldwell four years in Leavenworth and a $1,000 fine, and Baca eighteen months for possession.[1]
