Dubai records the Trucial States' first drug offence

Dubai police arrested a Pakistani national with 25 g of hashish on 16 June 1969, the first drugs offence recorded by the force, according to a Ministry of Social Affairs study. Officials dated real contact with drugs to the 1960s, when opium, hashish and qat were sold openly in Dubai and Sharjah. The case shows that the 1955 British regulation was not being enforced by the local rulers.[1]
