Abu Dhabi issued the first locally made Dangerous Drugs Act in what is now the United Arab Emirates, covering most drugs available at the time.[1] It allowed up to five years in prison or a fine of 10,000 Bahraini dinars, and qat was brought under it on 16 July 1973.[1] The law applied only in Abu Dhabi; Dubai passed its own version the next year.[1]
