The African Commission rejects Gareth Prince's plea for a Rastafari exemption

After losing in South Africa's Constitutional Court, the Rastafarian law graduate Gareth Prince asked the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights to find that the lack of an exemption for sacramental cannabis use violated the African Charter. At its session in Dakar, which closed on 7 December, the commission found no violation and ruled for the government, saying it was "better placed" to judge what suited its citizens. Prince turned next to the United Nations.[1][2]
