An American teacher gets 14 years in Russia for medical cannabis

Customs officers at Sheremetyevo airport found about 17 grams of cannabis in the luggage of Marc Fogel, a history teacher who had worked in Russia since 2012; an American doctor had prescribed it for chronic pain. In June 2022 he was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to 14 years. He was released on 11 February 2025, after three and a half years, in an exchange for a Russian held in the United States.[1]
