Law 1 of 2006 replaced article 37 of the 1987 drug law. Possession, cultivation or consumption for personal use now brought six months to three years and a fine of QR10,000 to QR20,000, down from two to five years and QR50,000 to QR100,000; the court could still send a proven addict to a clinic for three months to a year. The same law repealed the separate consumption offence added in 2003 and folded use back into article 37.[1][2][3]
