Neurologist Marek Bachański had been treating children with drug-resistant epilepsy with cannabis preparations at the Children's Memorial Health Institute. In July 2015 the hospital suspended the therapy, saying it had not been approved by its bioethics committee, and on 7 August it notified prosecutors; the health ministry called the treatment illegal. He was dismissed in late October. Parents had protested outside the hospital on 7 October demanding his return, and the case became the centre of the campaign for a medical cannabis law.[1]
