The government put an amendment to the Drugs Act before Parliament in December 2024 that would allow death for large-scale drug trafficking. The judiciary committee began work in February 2025 and took evidence from the Attorney General's Office and the police. It was still in committee in August 2025; the law then carried life imprisonment, not death, for drug trafficking.[1]
