Debate 🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan

A Kyrgyz MP proposes legalising marijuana, then industrial hemp

At a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, MP Dastan Bekeshev proposed revising drug policy and legalising light natural substances such as marijuana, arguing that banning and destroying natural drugs only drives up their price and pushes young people to cheaper and more harmful synthetic ones. In February 2026, as parliament prepared to review a draft law allowing medicinal herbs to be grown on arable land, he proposed also allowing industrial hemp under stricter state supervision. The agriculture ministry's list of medicinal crops did not include it.[1][2]
