A Kyrgyz MP calls for decriminalising 'light drugs'

On 20 December 2023 MP Dastan Bekeshev asked the interior ministry to decriminalise the use of light drugs, saying police pressured young people to pay $100–200 or face a criminal record. Deputy interior minister Nurbek Abdiev replied that use itself is not a criminal offence but that fines remain and that society was not ready for the change. No bill followed.[1]
