Iran hangs two Afghan drug offenders in Shiraz

Mirveis Khalilzadi, 55, and Ebrahim Ahmadshahi, 40, two Afghan nationals, were hanged at Shiraz's Adel Abad prison on 21 June 2026 for drug-related offences. Iran Human Rights, which recorded the case, says drug executions have risen every year since 2021 and that 795 people were executed on drug charges in 2025, only 0.18% of them announced by the authorities. Neither execution was reported by domestic media or officials.[1]
