The Plant Protection Act 2007 listed hemp (Cannabis sativa) in its First Schedule of prohibited plants. The agriculture minister confirmed the listing in Parliament on 20 November 2019, during the Fresh Standard exemption dispute. The drug law already prohibited cannabis, so the listing added a plant-protection route rather than a new cannabis offence.[1]
