Debate 🇧🇪 Belgium

Belgium's parliament passes a report on cannabis policy

The federal parliament approved in plenary an information report evaluating drug policy, cannabis above all. It does not advocate decriminalising cannabis. It calls for a new legal framework that makes the law equal, accessible and predictable and harmonises prosecution policy, and recommends that people who use or hold cannabis for their own use without disturbing the peace could avoid criminal or administrative punishment by choosing free psycho-medico-social support. PS, MR, Ecolo, Groen, Open Vld and Vooruit supported it; CD&V, a party of the federal majority, opposed it, Les Engagés abstained, and N-VA and Vlaams Belang gave no opinion.[1]
