The High Criminal Court sentenced a Bahraini man to death on 19 July 2022 for importing and possessing 50 kg of hashish with intent to distribute; prosecutors said the shipment came from Iran and the intelligence dated from March. On appeal the sentence became life imprisonment, and the Court of Cassation upheld the life term on 24 July 2023. The case shows that death sentences for cannabis continued after the first wave in 2018–2020, even though no drug offender was executed.[1][2]
