The High Criminal Appeals Court on 2 August 2025 upheld life sentences for the first two defendants in a cannabis-growing operation run from a rented villa in Adliya, and cut the third defendant's life term to 15 years; a fourth received 10 years and a fifth one year. Police had raided the villa in April and valued the indoor farm at more than BHD1 million, with seeds smuggled in and profits sent to Europe. The first defendant, an Arab-American, was also ordered deported after serving his sentence.[1][2][3]
