British Palestine's Dangerous Drugs Ordinance covers Indian hemp

description

The Mandatory government promulgated the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance ofon 15 July 1925, modelleddrawing on Britain's 1920 and 1925the British Dangerous Drugs Acts and the 1925 Geneva convention.[@1] It outlawed the manufacture, import, export and possession of certain dangerous drugs, among them Indian hemp, and was amended in 1928, 1932 and 1936.[@1,2,3] Section 12 repealed the 1919 notice, which had also banned cultivation; the ordinance itself did not re-enact a growing offence.[@1,2] Hashish kept flowing through Palestine from Syria and Lebanon to Egypt.[@1] It formalised a ban on hashish that the military government had announced in 1919.[@1]
