Amnesty counts 138 death sentences in Vietnam in 2025

Amnesty International's 2025 death-penalty report, published in May 2026, recorded at least 138 death sentences in Vietnam, 100 of them for drug offences. It counted three women and four foreign nationals among the drug-related cases. Vietnam treats execution figures as a state secret, so Amnesty recorded that executions took place but gave no number; it estimated more than 1,200 people under sentence of death at the end of 2025. Its 2024 report had recorded at least 150 death sentences, 121 for drug offences.[1][2]
