The UN moves THC as a medicine to a less strict schedule

At the request of the United States government, the WHO Expert Committee reviewed dronabinol, the pharmaceutical form of THC, and in 1989 recommended moving it from Schedule I to Schedule II of the 1971 convention. The Commission on Narcotic Drugs rejected this in March 1990, fearing more abuse; the committee repeated its advice in September with evidence of therapeutic usefulness, and in 1991 the Commission adopted it. It was the first formal acknowledgement at UN level that the main active compound of cannabis has medical use.[1]
