Somali warlords are reported to fund themselves with cannabis

A Nairobi newspaper reported that warlords were growing cannabis to pay for military operations, with yearly harvests of 160 tonnes worth US$272 million. Cannabis had been described in 1970 and 1971 as one of the few narcotic drugs found in Somalia apart from khat, and it is named in the penal code.[1]
